The 56th Annual Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 (Rain or Shine), on Gervais Street in downtown Columbia. The theme “I'm Dreaming of a GREEN Christmas!” will be featured throughout dozens of floats, marching bands, drill teams, and live performances.
The parade will begin (Rain or Shine) at 9:45 a.m. at Gervais and Bull Streets and proceed west on Gervais, pass in front of the State House, and continue into the Vista to Park Street.
WIS-TV will begin live coverage of the parade at 10 a.m. from their broadcasting area located on the corner of Main and Gervais, right across the street from the State House. This telecast will reach over 40 counties in South Carolina as the Carillon is considered not only the Capital City’s premier parade but the official holiday parade of South Carolina.
With nearly 100 entries, the Carillon will feature the 282nd Army "Victory" Band, The Citadel Summerall Guards, Ross Holmes, The Carillon Carolers, and, new this year, Miss Carolina Carillon. There will be high school drill teams & marching bands, local churches, clowns, dozens of beautiful floats, live animals, and, of course, the highlight of the parade, Santa Claus!
This year the Carillon will introduce two new events that will take place in and around the parade. The third annual "Jingle All The Way 5K" run and "Santa's Fun Run" for the kids will begin at 9:45 and will kick off the parade. Early registration for the race is November 6, 2009. On Sunday, October 4, the Carillon will host the 3rd Annual Miss Carolina Carillon Pageant. On December 5, 2009 pageant winners will be presented at the Carillon Holiday Parade!
